Shelled Brazil Nuts
Brazil nuts or Amazon nuts are the fruits of the Amazonian tree, Bertholletia excelsa. This tree, which is also born up to 50 m, produces the seeds of walnuts that, having become walnuts, fall to the ground spontaneously when ripe. At that moment they are ready to be transported to the factories. Here they will then be processed and packaged to be exported and sold. Brazil nuts have an inedible shell and are harvested from the center of a large, coconut-like fruit.
Brazil nuts contain good amounts of vitamins, antioxidants and mineral salts. They are an excellent source of B vitamins, such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folate and vitamin B6. These vitamins contribute to metabolism. In addition to selenium, Brazil nuts have good levels of other mineral salts, such as copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and zinc. Copper helps prevent anemia and osteoporosis.
The oil obtained from Brazil nuts has many traditional applications as a skin emollient and for massages. It has light yellow color, pleasant smell and taste. Helps protect the skin from dryness. It is also used for cooking and as a basic vegetable oil in natural medicine and aromatherapy.
