Lemon balm is a herbaceous plant of the Labiateae family. Due to its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, and the essential oils it contains, it is used in the treatment of many ailments.
Properties and Benefits
Lemon balm is rich in essential oils, which give the plant a pleasant aroma, used in states of anxiety with somatizations of the gastrointestinal system. Due to its antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and carminative action it is indicated in case of menstrual pain, neuralgia, digestive disorders, nausea, colitis, flatulence and abdominal cramps.
This plant is also used in the treatment of headaches, when it is caused by nervous tension, thanks to the presence of essential oil (0.5%) that acts as a calming on the nervous system, and relaxing on the muscular one. Its use is particularly indicated, therefore, in the presence of a picture of general irritability, insomnia caused by excessive fatigue, nervousness, premenstrual syndrome, and tachycardia on a functional basis.
Fresh lemon balm leaf extract possesses antiviral activity, due to the presence of polyphenolic acids and polysaccharides, which are indicated against Herpes simplex.

INFUSION: 1 tablespoon satin lemon balm leaves, 1 cup of water.
Pour the leaves into boiling water and turn off the heat. Cover and leave to infuse for 10 min.
Strain the infusion and drink it at the time of need in case of abdominal cramps, spastic colitis, nervousness and neuralgia. After meals to digest. Before going to sleep to take advantage of the relaxing and mildly sedative action.
