Honeybush Red Tea
Less known than Rooibos, but just as good. Rich in antioxidants and minerals. An excellent tea with a thousand properties.
Even honeybush grows in South Africa (as for Rooibos) only that its production is less and for this reason it is more difficult to find it on the world market.
The Honeybush shrub can be recognized by the woody stem and small leaves with yellow flowers that give off a scent of honey (hence the name "Honey"). These leaves are used to obtain this precious tea; in practice, after being cut, they are oxidized and dried in the sun.
Properties and Benefits
The properties of Honeybus are very similar to those of Rooibos, in fact even in this case the presence of caffeine and tannins is zero. Tannins are a substance that is released into water by other teas if left to infuse for longer, making everything more bitter. For this reason, this tea can remain in infusion longer while remaining sweet, so as not to have to add sugar or other sweeteners. Having the opportunity to stay longer in infusion the leaves can release all the antioxidant substances of which it is very rich. Antioxidants are essential to fight free radicals in our body, counteracting cellular aging.
Rich in minerals such as: magnesium, fluoride, calcium, phosphorus, manganese and iron, which help protect and fortify bones, teeth and prevent osteoporosis.
It also has a calming and relaxing effect, it is useful for those suffering from headaches, irritability, insomnia and depression.
It is effective against stomach cramps, children can safely take an infusion of Honeybush because it is natural and does not contain any dye or preservative, it has proven effective even in those who suffer from ulcers or heartburn.
It strengthens the immune system, helps lower the level of cholesterol and lowers the level of sugars, therefore useful for diabetics.
It is useful in the treatment of menopausal symptoms thanks to the content of isoflavones.
Honeybush Red Tea: Preparation
Also in this case like the Rooibos the preparation is very simple.
Unlike other teas you do not have to follow many rules, just soak in a cup of boiling water a teaspoon of tea and wait 7/8 minutes. Once filtered it can be consumed without adding sugar or other sweeteners its sweet and "myelous" taste make it delicious already natural.
