Eucalyptus
The name Eucalyptus comes from the Latin word, Ecalyptus Globulus which means "hidden well", "closed", perhaps to indicate the flowers, without petals and protected by a membrane, remain hidden until flowering.
It is a plant of the Myrtaceae family that has about 500 different species. The leaves of this plant can be used both fresh and dried, and then stored in a closed glass jar. From the leaves of Eucalyptus can obtain an excellent essential oil rich in terpenes (pinene, camphene, fellandrene); aldehydes; polyphenols (gallic acid, ferulic acid, gentisic acid); flavonoids (rutoside, hyperoside) and tannins.
Eucalyptus essential oil in addition to having a refreshing power when applied to the skin, also has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving power.
All the active ingredients of Eucalyptus give the plant a balsamic, fluidifying and expectorant action of catarrhal secretions of the respiratory tract. In addition, this product stands out from the others in that it possesses several antiseptic, bactericidal, expectorant, antipyretic and stimulant properties.
As far as the world of cosmetics is concerned, however, eucalyptus preparations have an excellent healing action on skin infections and a soothing action on burns. Very suitable for cleansing oily skin and hair, to which it restores shine.
The use of Eucalyptus herbal tea is widespread in case of severe cold, flu and fever, as it favors the expulsion of phlegm in the bronchi, also relieving cough.
