Matcha Tea, from the Uji Tawara region (Japan), is a very fine variety of Japanese green tea and has always been characterized by an intense scent and a strong emerald color.
It has a history dating back about 1000 years.
Also called "the secret medicine" of the imperial courts, it is used during a ceremony called "Water for tea", practiced according to techniques of Zen Buddhism. The leaves are steamed, dried and reduced to a very fine powder through the use of classic stone millstones.
It is rich in vitamins A, B1 and B2, minerals, beta-carotene and chlorophyll.
